There are four nine hole courses here that are played as separate nines. The courses were cut out of the woods and both the courses and the woods are home to a variety of wildlife. The White Course is the most challenging because of the thick tree-lined fairways, sand bunkers and the water hazards that come into play on several holes. The Maize Course was built on flat terrain and has open fairways. This is a great course for beginners. The Blue and White courses are the intermediate courses. There are streams and ponds that come into play on all four courses, and the terrain varies in undulation.
Bill Newcomb and Bruce Matthews both designed a number of holes at Hickory Hills. Over the years the rerouting of layouts has merged designer holes among the four nine hole courses.

With the four (4) 9 hole set-up you can always play the first 9 fairly easy, its the 2nd 9 that could give you troubles. My favorite is the Green/Blue set-up @6,800 yds (Blues) will give you the most for your money. Many of the greens are large in size which make the average golfer feel good about his game and moves things along. Open hole and tight holes are mixed very good to keep pace moving pretty good. Worth the stop and playing during the week if you want to play 18 holes under 3hrs having a wide slection of great golf holes to play. (Walk or Ride ?? Take the cart and I'm a walker)

Play here a couple of times each year because you can always get a tee time. With 36 holes the first 9 are the best paced with the second 9 a little confusing. AM golfers have more problems making the turn than the PM golfers. Greens today were thick and soft but rolled true at about 5-6 on the meter. With the rough at about 2.5 - 3 inches it make non-fairway shots tough. Shot 86/36 putts on the Green/Blue with 4 /O.B. shots in the 4hrs we played. No matter the time you call, they will always get you out on the first nine holes.
